Atmos Worker Hurt After Gas Line Incident

FARMERS BRANCH (CBSDFW.COM) – An Atmos energy worker was slightly hurt late Thursday after natural gas lit off at a line under repair in Farmers Branch, officials said.

Firefighters were first called to the corner of Venture Drive at Garden Brook Drive around 5 p.m. on reports of a three-inch gas line that had been cut.

Battalion Chief Lane Anderson said Atmos workers dug two holes on either side of the break in an effort to seal off the gas and make repairs.

Somehow, as work was progressing on the second hole after 10 p.m., the natural gas found an ignition source and lit off, slightly injuring the worker, Anderson said.

He was treated on scene and was back at work.

Crews let the gas burn off before they started finishing repairs.
