Lung Donation Recipient Meets Donor Family

WACO (CBSDFW.COM) – No one should ever have to bury their child, but one Waco family can take comfort in the fact that they fulfilled his last wishes. And at least one North Texas man is so thankful they did. Back in 2011, things looked bleaked for Benbrook resident Richard Patton. He struggled with interstitial pulmonary fibrosis, a disease that made his lungs like leather. Says Patton, “Twice I just passed out and died. One time I was in a coma for 20 days.” When Patton was put on a waiting list for a transplant, he didn’t think he’d live through the weekend. The career Air Force Veteran was given a number. He was ninty-six on a national waiting list.
