Michigan Fire Department To Donate Fire Truck To Abbott, Texas

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) – A gift from a small town in Michigan will help replace a fire truck lost in the devastating fertilizer plant explosion in the town of West.

Les than seven miles north of West sits the neighboring town of Abbott. In addition to losing one of their fire trucks in the blast, two Abbott volunteers were also killed in the explosion.

Ada, Michigan, may be 1200 miles from Abbott, but firefighters say they are all united in loss.

The Ada Fire Department could have sold their 20-year-old pumper for a profit, but firefighters and township officials decided they could donate it to Abbott instead.

The ball got rolling and donations from businesses and t-shirt sales helped not only refurbish the truck, but to also replace firefighting equipment so necessary to beat down blazes.
