CBS Dallas / Fort Worth

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) – The city of Dallas has just confirmed its first human case of the West Nile Virus.

According to Dallas County Health and Human Services Director, Zach Thompson, the patient is older than sixty and lives the OakCliff area in the 75224 zip code.

“When we have heard that we have another human case or positive mosquito trap, it should remind us to make sure we’re utilizing West Nile prevention activities such as removing standing water using mosquito repellant when we are outside,” said Thompson. “Right now we are just encouraging to Dallas County residents to take precaution. It is still west Nile season. Compared to last year we have not seen a significant outbreak of West Nile Virus.”

This is the fourth reported case in Dallas County. Areas in North Central and Northeast Dallas are scheduled for spraying Monday night.
