CROWLEY (CBSDFW.COM) – A woman who received the gift of sight from a cornea transplant wants to give back to her donor’s family.

Gayle Kennedy says she has gained more than her eye sight… she has gained a new family.

After receiving a transplant, Kennedy’s doctor said she had ‘young’ eyes again.

That’s when she wanted to find out who her donor was. Thus, she wrote a letter and the donor family responded.

The donor was a 22-year-old volunteer firefighter named Mark Anthony Chandler from Stoneville North Carolina. Tragically, he was stabbed to death at a birthday party.

Kennedy drove 1200 miles to North Carolina to meet Chandler’s family in late July, which would have been his 23rd birthday.

That’s where she met his parents. Chandler’s father was laid off from work not long after his son’s senseless death. The family was experiencing tough, financial troubles.
