Effective immediately Collin County has enacted a 90 day burn ban for the unincorporated areas of Collin County. All ground supported fires are prohibited with the exception of firefighter training, public utility and natural gas pipeline operations, and burns that are conducted by a prescribed burn manager certified under the Natural Resources Code.
The ban does not include the use of grills, smokers, or similar devices as long as the open flame, embers, and coals are contained in an approved device intended for that particular use.

NORTH TEXAS (CBSDFW.COM) – The rainstorms on July 8 were history making. It’s officially been the wettest year in North Texas to date – but experts say we probably won’t keep the record.

Stalley says this is an El Niño year, which could mean even more rain…

FORT WORTH (AP) – Texas Christian University and the University of North Texas Health Science Center are joining forces to open a medical school in Fort Worth, the biggest Texas city without such a school.

Officials for the two universities announced the collaboration in Fort Worth on Monday. TCU has pledged $50 million toward the project, while the UNT Health Science Center has rounded up about $25 million in private pledges.

The “memorandum of understanding” between the two calls for an initial class of 60 students in 2018 with a planned full enrollment of 240. The school will use existing facilities and faculties of the two Fort Worth schools to minimize startup costs.

The UNT Health Science Center already has an osteopathic medical school and graduate programs for other health professionals in Fort Worth.
